Monday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to a little shopping soiree at Nordstrom Rack at Manchester Highlands before its official opening. I'm not a frequent shopper at Nordstrom Rack Brentwood, but I do like the store quite a bit - and I now know I'd probably have a better wardrobe if I'd stopped in more often. This Rack, however, has won me over with simple, chic pieces that are on trend without going overboard - in either direction. That means nothing too 90s soccer mom, and nothing so over the top trendy that I'm going to be using it as a makeup towel in six months. (Just kidding, I would totally donate that ish to a swap party.)
First things first - lady friends and wine. (This is a really great first step for just about anything, by the way.) I found a few of my besties keeping it sexy in the shoe department, because as Brittany Browers (City Nouveau) put it, that's where all the cool kids hang. Bloggers Heather Korn, (BelleStyle), Holly Kern (Mint Julep) and Amanda Humbolt (Juxtapose) had beat me to the shopping extravaganza and had already stuffed their complimentary totes beyond capacity.
These badass-gets-a-real-job metallic booties were calling my name. The studded silver style is perfect for dark skinny denim, a white tee and black blazer - my effortless work staple. Okay, or you know - everyday all the time staple. Easy, yes. But it gets the point across and lets you show off your edgy, I-care-but-not-too-much attitude; which is totally intimidating in a good way.
Being cursed with a life long difficulty passing up snacks, I opted for the grilled cheese among several other things, possibly a few times each. It was entirely worth it - tasty and delicious. Just how I like my hors d'oeuvres. The apps gave me an extra boost of strength and energy, much needed for shopping a giant space full of on-point garments like printed cropped trousers, colored denim, printed oxfords and skater dresses galore.
I have somehow developed an aversion to shirts. I mean, I wear them obviously, but I've stocked up on everything but the essential top. So naturally, I dove camera first into the ocean of beautiful blouses next to the shoe department. The Manchester Rack had a really impressive selection of Fall attire in great prints and materials, perfect for mixing and matching or making the desk-to-date transition.
When I do buy tops, I'm pretty stuck on the standard button down - but with a little twist. Like a martini. I got a little giddy over these transitional blouses, born to be layered. Leopard, glitter, pearls? Well, duh. And check the price point - $18.97? Thank you fashion gods for Nordstrom Rack at Manchester Highlands.
After we'd all filled our adorable Rack totes to the point of no return, we headed to the cashwrap where we got distracted by the world's best affordable makeup brand ever, also known as NYX Cosmetics (which I will be elaborating on in Nordstrom Rack at Manchester Highlands Part 2). Now that we'd gotten shopping (sort of) out of our systems, it was time for pics. Me first? Why not. I was coming straight from the office in dark denim skinnies, the most adorable little booties you've ever seen but can't because they're not in the picture, a simple pseudo-chambray top by GAP and my go-to Fossil carryall.
These dolls were bringing the fashion in all the season's hottest casual trends. And is that a Fable + Lore necklace I see? Of course it is. (Amanda, Brittany, Jess, Yours Truly)
Jess Leitch (City in a Jar) was looking fantastic per her usual routine. In case you were wondering, this is how you mix prints, people. And since you already know Jess has the style thing on her side, you should probably know that she practically needed an assistant to carry out all her rad Nordstrom Rack finds.
Now that you know all of my shopping secrets (total exaggeration, but still very important information here), do yourself a favor and follow @Manchester_Rack on Twitter. They'll be tweeting clues to help you find the golden hangers on opening day - and they're worth $100 gift cards! So don't miss out. Get info about the Grand Opening and RSVP here.
Check back later this week to peep my three favorite pieces, and get a tour of my favorite mini makeup counter in St. Louis.
You should also follow me on Twitter and Instagram, or Tumblr if you own a Blackberry, but I don't know why you would do that.
And now, I will leave you with this. A beautiful tray of cookies at the Nordstrom Rack Manchester Highlands sneak preview.
